Intro to the Wheel
Never sat at a pottery wheel? Perfect. Learn to centre, open, and pull your first cylinder in a relaxed, small-group setting. You'll walk away with finished pieces and muscle memory you didn't know you had.
Bright, functional stoneware rooted in the landscape and colour of Nova Scotia — handmade by artists Kaas Ghanie and Kate Grey since 2017.
We met at NSCAD University in Halifax, earned our BFAs in Ceramics in 2016, and haven't stopped making since. KG Ceramics is built on a shared love of food, family, and the particular beauty of a well-made pot.
Kaas draws on the geometry of family Islamic prayer rugs, carving those motifs into functional stoneware using sgrafitto. His sculptural vessels explore the experience of being a first-generation Guyanese-Canadian Muslim. He's also the ceramic technician at the NS Centre for Craft and Design — and genuinely loves puzzling over glaze chemistry.
Kate's practice sits at the intersection of clay and digital art — she hand-builds objects of beauty and utility in bisqueware, then interrogates them through projection mapping. Her teaching is warm, encouraging, and a little bit contagious.
"We have a love for the intimate connection between making a handmade item and then being able to use it every day in your home."— KG Ceramics, Halifax
